The subject of this paper is to calculate the fields in a layered earth induced by a current distribution. A general formulation is presented, which contains very few restrictions of the current distribution. For the simplest current distributions (dipole, circular, and rectangular loops) we derive expressions for the fields, which contain a single integral (Sommerfeld type). Numerical computations are presented for the above mentioned sources, and some techniques for increasing the rate of convergence are discussed.
