Cumulative probability distribution functions of equatorial nighttime ionospheric scintillations are studied and are found to agree well with the Nakagami m distribution. Relationship between percentage occurrence of scintillations and S 4 index has been established on a monthly mean basis, facilitating the conversion of the scintillation data in analog form to fade margin data useful in transionospheric VHF communication systems design.
