Much of the research in geophysics requires data from world‐wide sources. The global and extra terrestrial interests of the research in meteorology, oceanography, seismology and solar terrestrial physics make exchanges almost an absolute necessity. Many of the research problems in geophysics involve large geographical areas and costly surveys and monitoring to develop the data bases needed to solve problems involving time and space varying phenomena. Practicality suggests sharing of the effort through international cooperation.
