The Oman ophiolite project [ Coleman, 1981a] contributed a considerable amount of valuable detailed geologic, petrologic, and geophysical data which added to our understanding of the origin and emplacement of the ophiólites. However, as in any study involving a large number of researchers, some inconsistencies appear. Hop son et al. [1981] are aware of this problem. In the structural and tectonic interpretations particularly, there is a certain tendency to present in text and illustrations one particular line of arguments in support of one preconceived idea.
