Seismograms of local earthquakes recorded on the short‐period sensor of the TATO station (one of the SRO stations) near Taipei, northern Taiwan are used to determine values of coda Q (Q c ). Results show the azimuthal dependence of the values of Q c . A correlation between the values of Q c and the tectonics of the region is determined. The value of Q c is small in the oceanic lithosphere, intermediate in the plate boundaries and large in the continental lithosphere.
