We have studied the flow of plasma past Io using a time dependent, three‐dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation. In addition to observing the “Alfvén wing”, a standing Alfvén wave perturbation expected from analytic theory, we have found that the other MHD modes contribute important perturbations. In particular, standing slow mode perturbations also are present in the flow.
