We calculate the demagnetizing temperature necessary to remove viscous magnetic moments from assemblies of single domain magnetite grains. It is shown that this cleaning temperature may be the same as that predicted by Pullaiah et al [1975] depending on the fraction of the viscous remanence removed. Experimental data by Williams ]1986] are shown to be in good agreement with the numerical calculations.
