A comparison is made between sulfate production rates predicted by the kinetic rate expression of Hoffman [1986] and measurements of O 3 ‐induced sulfate production in real and simulated clouds. Reasonable agreement is found and the Hoffman rate expression is recommended for interim use in numerical models to predict sulfate production due to O 3 oxidation in clouds.
