Data from meteorological recorders at 29.37W, 24.00W and 14.93W, all within one degree latitude of the equator, show that a relaxation event in the wind speed occurred nearly simultaneously at all three during late March 1983 during SEQUAL I. Wind stress subsequently increased by approximately a factor of two. The event was not recognizable in the data from a fourth recorder at 6.10N, 27.88W.
