Seismograms of aftershocks of the El Asnam earthquake recorded by three‐component stations of a local array provide direct evidence of structural heterogeneity in the aftershock zone. Inversion of arrival times for three dimensional velocity structure is thus needed for the relocation of hypocenters. These fall within a reduced depth interval from 6 to 12 km in the underthrust block.
