Samples of omphacitic eclogite from Fattigau / Germany were shock‐loaded to pressures of 18, 45 and 59 GPa. The recovered specimens were investigated by X‐ray diffraction experiments and showed all those reflections typical of the well known high‐pressure phases. The unusual appearence of the perovskite ‐ structured MgSiO 3 at the shock‐loading pressure of 18 GPa is in contrast to results of Liu (1980) and could be attributed to strong nonequilibrium processes caused by shock‐waves.
