Recent data from ISEE which shows a banded fine structure to AKR, with each band being separated by the ion cyclotron frequency, is the first direct evidence for the three wave mechanism proposed by Grabbe et al. [1980] for the origin of AKR. Details of the predictions of this mechanism for the band structure are presented here, and estimates of the relative intensities of the bands for particular plasma parameters are made.
