Using a database of aeronomical parameters measured by the Atmosphere Explorer‐C satellite, we deduce a temperature dependence of the reaction rate coefficient for the charge exchange of O + (²D) with N 2 , The results indicate that the Atmosphere Explorer values determined over the temperature range ∼700 to 1900°K, are not in conflict with the laboratory measurements made at higher temperatures. From these results, we show that the rate coefficient can be represented by and The shape of the temperature variation is found to be similar to that for the ion atom interchange rate coefficient of ground state oxygen ions with N 2 .
