Non‐radiometric data are inconsistent with fast growth rates for marine manganese concretions. A simple box model calculation can place an upper limit on growth rates that is consistent with the majority of radiometric interpretations. The vast majority of these concretions cannot presently be growing faster than a few millimeters per 10 6 years.
