Approximate mixing ratios of HCl in the stratosphere have been derived from solar spectra obtained during sunset with a balloon‐borne grating spectrometer. The HCl mixing ratio increases from 0.15 × 10 −9 to 1.2 × 10 −9 vol HCl/vol Air in the 13.4‐27 km altitude range with a possible decrease above 27 km.
