Evidence for a semi‐annual variation in the galactic cosmic‐ray intensity is presented. This effect can be associated with the heliographic latitude excursion of the earth during its orbital motion. Therefore the phase evaluation of the semi‐annual variation can be used to infer the direction of the cosmic‐ray gradient perpendicular to the solar equatorial plane through the solar cycle.
