Text for a United Nations treaty requiring governments to limit and halt the use of a number of so‐called persistent organic pollutants, or POPs, was finalized on December 11. POPs are highly stable compounds that can bioaccumulate in living organisms, and can also circulate for decades in the environment through evaporation, atmospheric transport, and deposition.
