Earth Day on April 22 has become a time for presenting awards for environmental protection, and this year's awardees include several people and organizations whose activities touch upon geoscience‐related issues. Among the winners of the Goldman Environment Prize is Michal Krav Rk, a hydrologist from Slovakia who led a successful campaign to stop the construction of a proposed 65‐m‐high dam that had been planned for the Upper Torysa River about 50 km northwest of the city of Kosice.
