There is no clear evidence that we were less likely to be exposed to UV radiation in the 1980s than we are today, according to a new study published in the April 20 issue Journal of Geophysical Research . Rather, measurements seem to indicate a slight increase in the amount of UV radiation that reached the Earth's surface in the 1980s. Results of a new analysis by Elizabeth C. Weatherhead of the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory in Boulder, Colo., and colleagues from the University of Wisconsin and University of Chicago, dispute claims published in Science in 1988 that UV radiation decreased during the 1980s.
