Oceanographer Margaret Leinen of the University of Rhode Island has been selected to head the National Science Foundation's (NSF) geosciences directorate. She will assume her position of assistant director for geosciences in January 2000 and will be responsible for coordinating environmental science and engineering programs within NSF for environmental cooperation and collaborations between NSF and other Federal agencies, and managing an annual budget of approximately $470 million.
