Jan Tullis, an AGU Fellow and a professor at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, has been selected to receive the 1998 Outstanding Educator Award from the Association for Women Geoscientists Foundation. The award will be presented on October 27, 1998, at the Geological Society of America Convention in Toronto, Canada. Through her encouragement and professional success, Tullis is credited with drawing a high percentage of women students to Brown's Department of Geological Sciences. Currently half the undergraduate students and nearly half the graduate students are women.
