What do AGU members value about their publications? If a survey* of nearly 300 active members is any indication, the quality of their scientific content is the most important consideration. Good writing, timeliness, speed of publication, and copyediting complete the list of the top five most important items. Though these data are variable (Table 1), the trends are of importance to the AGU: these same five items, out of 14, and in the same order, were selected by the members as the highest ranking ones (Table 1) . It can be concluded that these are the items which first come to mind when members think about the quality of the Union's publications.
