A general boundary integral equation method has been implemented to calculate the mode propagation in and the plane wave scattering at periodic and nonperiodic two‐dimensional structures. The method includes the use of multiple‐region structures with arbitrary geometry, each consisting of uniaxial bianisotropic material and the calculation of relevant output parameters such as radar cross sections, diffraction efficiencies, and propagation constants. Numerical examples illustrate the generality and power of the applied method.
