The Antalya Bay meso‐β scale cyclone observed on 8 of July, 1993 is simulated to understand the physical mechanisms responsible for its generation using the National Meteorological Center (NMC)/Eta limited area model. Although the NMC/Eta model was developed to forecast synoptic‐scale events, it also simulates well the meso‐scale features. The results of the model indicate that a strong westerly flow, orographic forcing due to the Taurus Mountains and surface temperatures of the warm pool in the Antalya Bay are necessary and sufficient conditions to generate the short‐lived meso‐β scale in the Bay.
