We measured the first‐order loss rate coefficients for CF 2 O on solid surfaces, ice and HNO 3 ‐treated ice, and on sulfuric acid solutions that coated the inside wall of a flow tube. We determined an upper limit for the uptake coefficient, γ, of ∼3×10 −6 for CF 2 O on ice and HNO 3 ‐treated ice. A value for γ on a 60% (by weight) sulfuric acid solution of 3(+2/−3)× 10 −6 was measured and we observed a higher value over 40% acid, γ = 6×10 −5 (± 30%). The loss of CF 2 O on stratospheric particles is a very slow process and will be insignificant for events that occur on timescales of a year, such as the annual polar chlorine activation phenomena.
