Seven years (1984 through 1990) of Laser data on Lageos have been.analysed to recover absolute stations velocities and j 2 . Relative motions between stations located in stable tectonic regions agree well with the NUVEL‐1 model predictions within 5 mm/yr rms. Relative motion across the San Andreas Fault is found to be − 33.±1. mm/yr. Solution for the secular variation of J 2 is (−2.8±0.04) × 10 −11 /yr.
