Measurements of the tropospheric horizontal wind field at Christmas Island during the ALOHA‐90 campaign are presented in this paper. A diurnal cycle is observed on several days but is not consistent from day‐to‐day. Significant variance associated with the high frequency wave motions occurred between March 22 and 26, 1990. This large wave activity in the troposphere is consistent with mesospheric wave activity during the same time interval.
