A new, more accurate model for the coaxial feed of microstrip, dual patch microstrip and microstrip backfire antennas is presented. In combination with the use of edge expansion functions in the method of moments this leads to a highly accurate analysis of these three types of antennas in a homogeneous medium. Results obtained using the model are compared with experimental results for few structures.
