The performance of compact antenna ranges is analyzed in terms of the radiative coupling between two near‐field antennas. Both a geometric optics model and a more exact model based on an angular spectrum of plane waves are used. A two dimensional model shows that an anomaly exists when the test antenna sees the edges of the range reflector. The relationship between test antenna size and range reflector size is investigated and the influence of the shape of the range reflector field studied.
