The transit of Venus across the face of the Sun for about 7 hours on 5–6 June is an astronomical spectacle that will not occur again until 2117. To take advantage of the transit, NASA is planning a number of events, including training various instruments on Venus and having several web‐streams about the transit. In addition, NASA has prepared educational materials, is planning events at every NASA field center, and is coordinating and promoting hundreds of other events and activities in more than 140 countries. All told, these outreach activities could reach more than 100 million people, according to NASA.
