As the Earth's climate warms, Arctic sea ice is melting. Models predict that the Arctic will be nearly ice free in the summer within the next several decades. However, a small amount of ice is likely to remain. Knowing where ice will linger and understanding the patterns of Arctic ice flow could help planners develop protection strategies for fragile ice ecosystems.
