AGU has three classes of individual membership: Members, Fellows, and Honorary Fellows. As you can see, “students” is not a membership class. For almost 50 years, members of AGU who are students have enjoyed much reduced dues and special rates for most AGU publications, meetings, and other services and activities. Throughout those years, AGU has tried to create a welcoming environment for students. Like many members who are now leaders in our community, I joined AGU as a graduate student. We benefited from our generous seniors as we joined the scientific fray at our early meetings and battled our way for recognition. I trust that we have shown the same support for the next generation and that this tradition continues to prosper.
