Tethered‐balloon borne observations show a correlation between a significant peak of ultrafine particle concentration and increased SO 2 advected by a nocturnal low‐level jet. The maximum of ultrafine particles is found at the lower edge of the jet in a region where the advected SO 2 is mixed with colder and more humid air masses from below the jet. Model results corroborate that kinetic nucleation is the key mechanism for this nucleation event.
