Authors will soon be able to calculate for themselves, via a Web interface, the likely fees for publishing in any AGU journal. In this way authors will be able to minimize the potential fees before they submit a contribution for publication. This development is possible because author fees will no longer be calculated according to the final printed pages. Rather, fees will be based on the number of word equivalents in the accepted article and the number of figures or dynamic files. This change will break the last vestige of AGU publication that is tied to the real estate of a printed page.
