A protocol officially creating the consortium that will represent the European participation in the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) was signed 15 December in Paris at the headquarters of the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). The European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) represents the scientific agencies of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and 10 other European countries.
