The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has signed an agreement with several other U.S. agencies to develop a new and improved U.S. Weather Research and Forecasting system, the agency announced on 19 August. The system, which is now in the testing phase, is expected to produce high‐resolution forecasts far more detailed than current operational models, according to NOAA. The system also could prompt closer ties between the research and operational forecasting communities, the agency indicated.
