Exploring Earth: An Introduction to Physical Geology, Second Edition reminds me of why I found geology so exciting as a beginning student. This introductory physical geology textbook was written for future scientists to give them the basic background and tools needed to understand geologic processes. It is unusual in terms of both its rigor and its use of plate tectonics as a unifying theme. The book is surprisingly enjoyable to read, well‐written, and scientifically up‐to‐date. The authors do not oversimplify or gloss over difficult concepts; they explain them clearly in far more depth than most introductory textbooks.
