A new report on the Missouri River calls for major restoration measures and indicates that the river has continued to decline, from an ecological standpoint, to the point at which irreparable damage may be done to the river. The 9 January report, by the U.S. National Research Council's (NRC) Committee on Missouri River Ecosystem Science, calls for a policy of adaptive management of the river and for the creation of a broad‐based stakeholder process.
