At its December 16, 1999, meeting in San Francisco, the AGU Council gave first approval to several changes to the Bylaws of the Union. Bylaw changes require passage at two Council Meetings within one year. Notice of changes must be published prior to the second meeting. Comments on these Bylaw changes may be addressed to the Statutes and Bylaws Committee by e‐mail statbylw@agu.org or mail to the Committee at AGU. The changes approved in December include the addition of a Biogeosciences Section, a provision that will allow members to affiliate with certain committees as well as with sections, and a process that would allow a section secretary to run unopposed in an election under the same terms as the General Secretary and International Secretary of the Union.
