Abstract Monod constants for growth on ammonium were determined for Candida utilis under different growth conditions. Results indicate that values for K s differed in batch and in continuous cultures. The addition of the vitamin thiamine, however, had no effect on K s . By contrast, the maximum specific growth rate did not vary between batch and continuous cultures but was affected by the addition of the vitamin thiamine.
