The Kansas Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (KMRDDRC) received its initial core funding from the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development in 1966. Throughout its history, the KMRDDRC has supported systematic investigations into the biological and behavioral causes and consequences of mental retardation and related developmental disabilities coupled with investigations into prevention and treatment. This program of research has generated knowledge on many fundamental aspects of mental retardation including communication and language development and intervention, causes and treatment of aberrant behavior, the effects of impoverished environments on child development, the effects of
