Ethical issues surrounding the care of HIV-infected patients continue to be a source of discussion, controversy, and difficult decisions. New information and new policies concerning AIDS are emerging frequently. In the final report of the Presidential Commission, we are reminded that "the responsibility of the health care community [is] to offer comprehensive and compassionate care to all HIV-infected persons." Should not that be our responsibility and commitment for all patients?
