Managing the surgical schedule and facilitating patient flow through the ambulatory surgery unit is an administrative challenge. Each area is dependent on the other, making good communication among staff members essential. This communication begins in the physician's office when the surgical procedure is scheduled and continues with the patient and family through the entire perioperative experience.
