AbstractThis work is an approach to the way in which young Mexicans perceive the political notions that guide their participation as citizens. The conversation with the interviewees reveals that some values related to democracy such as freedom, equality and solidarity are viewed as belonging to the political system of our country. However, they perceive citizen and citizenship barely linked with these values or with the decisions taken by the political class. As a result, they maintain the idea that the only obligation of the citizen is to participate in the electoral process and another horizon of political strive is rarely contemplated
