home) and alsowith having less contact with friends and neighbors. Also the presence of disability, DS and dementia also showed association (Table 1). We did not find an association between hearing loss and the presence of dementia, risk ratio1⁄41.10, 95% confidence interval 0.81-1.50 after multivariate adjustment (age, education, assets, social contact, disability and DS). Conclusions: As in other reports, one in five ME had HL. These were more frequent in people with dementia, however, after multivariate adjustment no association was found between these two variables. It is possible to consider that there are factors that are more relevant to the presence of dementia. This points out that the evidence in relation with the HL and its association with dementia is not conclusive and follow-up studies should be carried out to find out if there are different results in the incident dementia studies with respect to HL in this population.
