null background. Results: Hyperphosphorylation of tau was detected by Western blots only on a sub-acute basis in the hippocampus, but neuronal accumulation of phospho-tau was sustained in the chronic phase, in parallel to prolonged astrogliosis, decreased neural and synaptic markers, and cognitive and locomotor impairment. Conclusions: CCI induces Alzheimer-like brain alterations which include intraneuronal accumulation of phospho-tau and astrogliosis, along with neurobehavioral impairment in adult mice expressing only non-mutated human tau.
