has been incorporated into the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative 3, or ADNI 3 (data collection and sharing funded by ADNINational Institutes of Health Grant U01 AG024904), in order to assess the test’s capabilities on a multi-site level. Methods:Baseline clinical FCI-SF scores from 32 sites across the United States were summarized fromADNI 3 as of September 20, 2017. ANOVA comparisons for overall and sub-section scores were performed for normal controls (NC) (n1⁄4111), MCI patients (n1⁄461), and mild Alzheimer’s dementia (mAD) patients (n1⁄411). Multiple comparisons analysis was performed at the item level to identify questions that separated the clinical sub-groups with the greatest significance. Results: A significant separation in overall FCI-SF score (mean 6 SE) was noted between NC (68.0 6 0.51), MCI patients (58.8 6 1.84) and mAD patients (39.5 6 6.46). Clinical subpopulations were also significantly separated based on scores from each of the FCI-SF’s five sub-sections, which include Mental Calculation, Financial Conceptual Knowledge, Single Checkbook/ Register Task, Complex Checkbook/Register Task, and Bank Statement Management. Multiple comparisons analysis revealed that a subset of key items from Single and Complex Checkbook and Bank Statement Management subsections allowed for greatest separation of clinical subpopulations, particularly between NC and MCI. Conclusions:These data confirm that financial abilities decline in the earliest symptomatic stages of AD in a multiple-site setting. In addition to memory, early AD subjects develop deficits associated with a variety of complex tasks, highlighting functional deficits as an early feature of the disease.
