However, when adjusting for the level of SCD, grey matter density in right middle frontal gyrus showed increased volume after E2 treatment compared to placebo, whereas bilateral parahippocampal volume continued to show a reduction in volume after E2 treatment compared to placebo. Conclusions:E2 treatment for 3 months was associated with a reduction in grey matter volume in the parahippocampal region, but was associated with increased grey matter volume in the right middle frontal gyrus. As SCD has been associated with grey matter volume decline, the level of subjective cognitive decline may be important in determining the effect of E2 treatment on brain structure after menopause.
