disability, indicators of cognitive reserve, MCI and NPS. Results: The overall follow-up time was 4168.6 person years and an average follow-up of 3.1 years (interquartile range from 3.0 to 3.2 years). A one-point “risk categories” index was developed. The risk factors categories were: older age, living in rural areas, diabetes, inability to “read a letter / newspaper”, mild cognitive impairment, the presence of two or more NPS. A diagnostic value for different cut-off points (2, 3 and 4) was estimated. The presence of two risks factors showed a sensitivity of 72.9% and a specificity of 65.1%, a negative predictive value of 95.8% and positive predictive value of 18.0%. As expected the presence of three characteristics increased the specificity (91.4%) decreasing the sensibility. Conclusions: Not all NPS show the same ability to identify subjects at risk of dementia and although the proposed index has limited properties, it’s a simple proposal that can be used in a basic level of health context such as community centres.
