MeSH terms related to hearing loss, communication barriers, dementia, and audiologic rehabilitation. Because preliminary data searches yielded a paucity of research findings, search terms were intentionally broad and criteria for consideration regarding types of studies, participants, interventions, and outcome measures were defined broadly. After combining search lists and removing duplicates, four researchers reviewed all titles/abstracts such that each record was viewed by two independent researchers. Results: The search yielded 4199 titles and abstracts, and 43 titles were selected for full-text review. Data abstraction is on-going, but most articles were descriptive in nature regarding the use of devices in the dementia population. Conclusions:While there is recognition of benefit of hearing aid use among persons with hearing loss and dementia, there has been very little effort to develop customized approaches to tailoring hearing care intervention to the needs of persons with dementia and their families and care providers.
